When Greater Illinois Title opened for business in April, 1985, a staff of nine formed the foundation of the company that has now grown to over 100 employees. The company currently operates nineteen area locations and is authorized to write Title Insurance and issue policies in the counties of Cook, DeKalb, Du Page, Grundy, Lake, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, McHenry and Will. The company coordinates title insurance and escrows in all Illinois counties and anywhere across the United States.

In 1987, Greater Illinois Title Company became a policy issuing agent of Chicago Title Insurance Company. GIT is the number one policy issuing agent of Chicago Title in Illinois and ranks among the company's top agents nationwide. For thirteen consecutive years, GIT has been appointed to the President's Agents Council (PAC) of the Chicago Title and Trust Family of Title Insurers. Appointment to this prestigious group represents recognition of an agent's outstanding performance and contribution to Chicago Title. In 1998 Chicago Title Corporation acquired a partial ownership interest in Greater Illinois Title. This relationship provides customers of GIT enhancements to product and service offerings.
