Gregory M. Kosin Elected President of the American Land Title Association
Washington D.C. Gregory M. Kosin, President of Greater Illinois Title Company, Chicago, IL, was elected President of the Board of Governors for the American Land Title Association (ALTA), Washington, DC. ALTA is the association representing title insurance companies and their agents nationwide. He will serve in this position until October 2007. He was recently installed at ALTA’s Annual Convention held in San Francisco. Kosin has served on the ALTA Board for seven years. He has been Chair of the Abstracters & Title Insurance Agents Executive Committee; and Chair of the ALTA Government Affairs Committee.
Kosin has been involved in the title insurance industry in Illinois for over 30 years. He helped found Greater Illinois Title Company in 1985. Today it has become the largest title agency in Illinois and one of the largest title agencies in the country. In 1996, Mr. Kosin acquired an ownership interest in H. B. Wilkinson Title Company based in Galena Illinois and serves as its chief executive officer. H.B. Wilkinson Title operates in northwestern Illinois and has grown to ten offices serving thirteen counties.
In 1988, he was appointed to the State of Illinois Department of Financial Institutions Title Insurance Advisory Task Force which drafted the Illinois Title Insurance Act of 1990. Mr. Kosin is an editorial resource for the Chicago Tribune, Business Week, Chicago Sun Times, and Crain’s Chicago Business and has been published in numerous real estate trade publications. He is a Realtor® Member of the Chicago Association of Realtors® and is a former member of its Board of Directors. He is a member of the Dearborn Realtist Board and NAREB, organizations dedicated to democracy in housing. He is a former director of the Illinois Association of Mortgage Brokers, the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Society of Mortgage Professionals. He served two terms as President of the Illinois Land Title Association and is a former member of its Board of Directors. He has served in Springfield as a House and Senate Committee witness on title insurance legislation, and testified at HUD in Washington, D.C. at public hearings on the impact of RESPA changes on the title insurance industry. He currently resides in Glen Ellyn with his wife and three sons.
The eleven-member ALTA Board of Governors is responsible for creating association policy; overseeing the financial health of the association; overseeing the work of 33 committees; and ensuring the overall welfare of the association.
The American Land Title Association represents title insurance companies and their agencies nationwide on a variety of industry and legislative issues. Members of the Association search and insure land titles to protect real estate investors including home buyers and mortgage lenders.
